Really beautiful. I also just came across your site when searching for sweet potato dessert soup. I only wish I could find purple sweet potatoes here in Switzerland!! I just found some regular purple potatoes and planted them this summer, so maybe I can use those and add the sugar for sweetness!! Thanks a lot for such a beautiful photo...

Hi

I'm new to baking, and am thinking of getting a convection oven - good enough for baking bread and cakes will do as I don't cook meat usually.

I am not considering those 2-in-1 type ( microwave and convection type ) as I read using the microwave to cook food is not a good idea.

But I really don't know which brand or model of oven is a good buy.

Can u recommend some ovens ( non built -in) ? Would really appreciate your help as I hope not to regret buying the oven.

And thanks so much for your blog. It's really useful to new cook like me.

Hi Nancy,

The flour mix recipe is in *parts* and the bread recipe refers to *cups*.

Hence you can make up a larger amount of flour mix, say two or three times the amount (you can set 1 *part* to be 2 cups, for example) and store it in a box to be ready for use at any time in any recipe. Scoop out the appropriate amount for individual recipes each time.

Hope it's clear now. All the best!

Thanks niceties, I have found the flours. I am about to make the GF yeast free bean bread but I couldn't figure out how you arrived at 4 cups flour when I only see 3 cups. 1/3 part (x3) isn't it 1 pt which is 1cup. Together with tapioca and cornstarch 1 cup each. Total 3 cups. I search thru your post but couldn't find any explanation. Pls adv.

Dear Nancy,

Don't worry -- it's easy to find gluten-free flours in Singapore, just go to Mustafa (or other Indian grocery store). See my post:

niceties, yes reusable ones are good, no matter what they are made of, we really need to get rid of the disposable ones badly though. As I mention in my article, why not get an international agreement on this at Copenhagen? A global ban would provide *real* emissions reduction.

Canada Guy,
Yes, bottled water in disposable plastic bottles is a big environmental problem. Which is why carry my own water container as much as possible. Unfortunately, it's not practical to carry glass bottles around! So one ends up with non-disposable plastic bottles (although they cause a problem when they break and have to be disposed too, but obviously in much much lower quantities than disposable bottles).

We all know water bottles are wasteful and bad for the environment, yet their production is growing rapidly everywhere. Just 20 years ago the market for plastic water bottles was practically nonexistent, but today we produce billions of these completely unnecessary products. There can be only one sane response, plastic water bottles must be banned!

hi I love your tea posts. I've also learned that pu'er tea should not be taken on an empty stomach or in the mornings. it helps with food digestion therefore should only be drunk AFTER a meal.
drinking it on an empty stomach or at the wrong times can cause constipation. it is a tea that is least yin - so that should be taken into consideration! thanks I love your blog!

Dear Adeline,

It's just a normal plastic box so there isn't much heat retention...

Even if you get the men's size ones that come with a silver bag, I find that that insulated bags don't do much to retain heat either. The only thing that really retains heat are those stainless steel jars.

All the best with finding your perfect bento box!

I have to get a bento box that has dividers and can retain heat. I assume the ones you bought can retain the heat of the food, right?
Please reply on your blog here....thanks.
